In the days of material scarcity, the norm was to wear an item "new for three years, old for three years, and mended for another three." The philosophy behind the art of metal staple—repairing broken ceramics with Metal staples—is simply to "let daily life go on." Kintsugi does not conceal scars. Confronting the reality that life is impermanent, imperfect, and transient, it instead embraces the cracks with lines of brilliant pure gold — acknowledging that the object was once broken yet remains precious, and viewing the damage as a "turning point" in the vessel's life story rather than an "end." Yobitsugi breathes new life into two previously unrelated vessels by uniting them within a single piece of pottery. It boldly incorporates fragments of different materials and patterns—sourced from elsewhere— to mend its own imperfections.
Through his Kintsugi works, TO Yeuk offers the public a sincere source of spiritual inspiration. The exhibition centers on showcasing the dynamic process of Kintsugi restoration; it is not merely a display of physical craftsmanship, but also a profound exploration of traditional techniques and natural materials by the artist.
